Background

For some, planning a special event is a nightmare. For others, it is an exciting opportunity to orchestrate an exhibition of pomp and circumstance. Here are a few pointers you may find helpful when planning your next event:
  1. Plan ahead. The more detail you can put into the plan, the less you'll have to worry about on the actual day.

  2. Delegate as much as you can on that day so you can be free to troubleshoot.

  3. Be everywhere during the event. You can often spot a potential problem before it happens or correct something quickly if it already happened.

  4. Work with a team. You can't do it all.

  5. Be available. Carry a cellular phone or walkie-talkie.

  6. Take charge. Be prepared to make decisions on the spot and take the responsibility for them.

  7. Be flexible. Things don't always come out as planned. They might come out better.

  8. Have fun. If you look stressed, you will likely make everyone else feel stressed.

  9. Know your limits. If it can't be done, it can't be done. However, don't say "no" until you know.
